Aim4sport Ambassador – Rose Sharpe.

We have taken on the first of hopefully a number of Aim4sport Ambassadors. The first is Rose Sharpe from Wellingborough.

Now I could tell you all about Rose, however, I thought it would be a good idea to let Rose tell it how it is in her own words. So….. Take it away Rose……

Hello, my name is Rose and I have been asked by Dave and Gaynor to write an introduction so that you all know who I am.

Some of you have already seen me at Aim4sport shooting over the last 2 and a half years, but more recently in my new shirt.   In the last few weeks, 2 important things have happened for me, I have started secondary school and I have become the new Aim4sport ambassador.   I am the youngest in a house of archers. We all believe passionately in our sport and what it gives us and also what it can offer to others.   I have been shooting a little over 3 years and I am lucky enough to shoot at county level.   It does mean hard work and I did have 2 sports that both needed commitment to do incredibly well so I made the tough decision to give up my Taekwondo and focus on my archery.   I have been training at Aim4sport for over 2 years in the different levels, SCAS, ATC and NTDP along with 1 to 1 sessions with Gaynor.   I am also having a great time in the junior club at Aim4sport where we are relaxed and learn but laughter is very much encouraged too! A great way to make some friends when a lot of our peers don’t know much about our sport.   At primary school I had a difficult time with bullies and this has been mostly because I don’t follow the crowd. I enjoy the things about me that can make us different, these are the things that make us interesting.   I have been very lucky because the great team of amazing coaches at my club but most especially at Aim4sport have worked hard with me, not only helping to improve my shooting but, by welcoming me and treating me as an individual, they have helped me grow my confidence not just in archery but to help me take that into everyday life too.

So what does this mean I shall do now for you?   Well, it’s a new role that we will develop together but my biggest aim is to help everyone feel welcome in our sport and to know that it’s ok to be you, we actually encourage that. But especially when it’s tough to walk into a new place, or if you are quiet – to speak up and make yourself held.   Come chat with me, let’s see what we can do together. Archery welcomes everyone – I am confident enough in that to say it rejects no one! I just want you to know that if you have an idea or are worried that it’s ok, that we can work on it together and make it better together.

I am still sometimes quiet and shy but I have been encouraged to grow and shine and most importantly stay individual whilst doing it and I want you to know that you can have that too.   So, thank you to Dave and Gaynor for this chance to see what we can do together.

Speak to you soon, I’m sure

Rose
